Strategy and Mission Statement

1.0       The Ground Forum promotes:

1.1       The drawing together of all elements of the geotechnical, ground engineering and geoenvironmental community.

1.2       The bringing together of academics, consultants, designers and constructors        within the geotechnical, ground engineering and geoenvironmental community.

1.3       The particularity of geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering within the construction industry.

 

2.0       The Ground Forum seeks to increase the awareness of Government and the community at large of the science and practice of geotechnics, and their importance in the sustainable construction process.

2.1       The Ground Forum seeks to increase the awareness of other professionals and clients of the value of timely and appropriate commissioning of geotechnical and geoenvironmental expertise.

3.         The Ground Forum supports

3.1       A  nationally applied standard for ground investigation..

3.2       Efficient and effective Quality Control throughout ground engineering from site investigation through design and construction, project completion, maintenance and decommissioning.

3.3       Formal geotechnical control as part of the statutory process of Building Control.

3.4       An increased environmental awareness including positive steps for environmental protection and rehabilitation throughout construction and the lifetime of the project.

3.5       Increased expenditure on research, development and managed innovation in the construction industry.

3.6       The notion that a construction industry wide levy system should be introduced to support research, development and managed innovation provided that the allocation of funds is controlled by a broadly based body representative of all sides of industry.

3.7       The ConstructionSkills Council

 

4.0        Within CIC, the Ground Forum, in addition to pursuing and promoting its strategy as set out above will

4.1       Select a representative for the Sustainable Development Committee and will seek to get geoenvironmental matters brought to more prominence in that committee.

4.2       Explore why Quality Assurance matters are currently dealt with by the Education and Training Committee.  Ground Forum will support Quality Assurance being transferred to the Industrial Practices Committee.

4.3       Support all initiatives which may lead to fair and equitable Conditions of Engagement and of Contract throughout construction.

4.4.      Support all initiatives which may lead to fair and equitable Conditions of Engagement and Contract throughout construction.

 

5.0        Where CIC does not provide an appropriate forum to advance the Ground Forum's strategy, it will seek out other routes, committees or bodies through which to promote its strategy.
